چکیده

Water culture experiments were conducted to study the response of ten wheat genotypes to external K application (10 mmol KCI dm3) at seedling stage under saline condition (0 and 100 mmol NaCl dm3). The data showed that there was an increase in the shoot and root length with the application of external K. The increase was more pronounced under control than under saline conditions. The better performing genotypes under two treatments were Bhitai, NIAB-41, NIAB-I076 and Khirman. The enhanced growth of these genotypes under saline condition might be due to the quick response to external K application, resulting in high K/Na ratio. The results indicated that the genotypes, which have the ability of enhanced K/Na discrimination, might perform better under saline conditions when sufficient potassium is applied in the rooting medium.

The Effect of Priming and Salinity on Physiological and Chemical Characteristics of Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)

In order to study of the effect of priming and salinity on physiological and chemical characteristics of wheat(Triticum aestivum L.), an experiment was carried out at the Experimental Farm of Shiraz University. Results showedthat primed plants significantly reduced its gas exchanges by accelerating senescence under a series of salt stress, which became more serious along with the increasing of s...

Assessing genetic diversity of promising wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) lines using microsatellite markers linked with salinity tolerance

Narrow genetic variability may lead to genetic vulnerability of field crops against biotic and abiotic stresses which can cause yield reduction. In this study a set of 37 wheat microsatellite markers linked with identified QTLs for salinity tolerance were used for the assessment of genetic diversity for salinity in 30 promising lines of hexaploid bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). A total of 4...

Salt-Induced Tissue-Specific Cytosine Methylation Downregulates Expression of HKT Genes in Contrasting Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) Genotypes

Plants have evolved several strategies, including regulation of genes through epigenetic modifications, to cope with environmental stresses. DNA methylation is dynamically regulated through the methylation and demethylation of cytosine in response to environmental perturbations. High-affinity potassium transporters (HKTs) have accounted for the homeostasis of sodium and potassium ions in plants...

Assessment of Root Growth and Physiological Responses of Four Bread Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) Cultivars to Salinity Stress

Enlarged root systems that extend into the salt affected soil improve water and nutrient capture by plants and can increase plant productivity. In order to examine root system characteristics of four bread wheat cultivars contrasting in salt tolerance (Arg, Ofoq, Tajan and Morvarid) a greenhouse experiment was conducted with applying two salinity levels (0 and 150 mM NaCl) on plants grown in PV...

بررسی توزیع یونی در بافت های مختلف ارقام متحمل و حساس به شوری گندم (.Triticum aestivum L)

An understanding of physiological mechanisms of salt tolerance is necessary for breeding programs, in order to select the desired trait in different wheat genotypes. Three bread wheat genotype differing in salt tolerance were employed to assess ion distribution and growth responses under saline conditions. To evaluate ion distribution in plant, sodium and potassium concentrations as well as K+/...

Effect of salicylic acid Effect of application of salicylic acid and potassium silicate on some morphological, physiological and biochemical traits in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) grown under salt stress

Water and soil salinity on environmental agents limit plant growth and its productivity in Iran. In order to reduce the adverse effects of salinity on plants, different compounds are used. In this study, the effects of salicylic acid and potassium silicate were investigated on wheat plants under salt stress. A factorial experiment in a randomized complete block was conducted by applying 100 mM ...
